MARSHALL, Tx. - Today the Calvin acrobatics and tumbling team kicked off its final weekend of competition of the season when it took on the Mustangs of Stevenson in the first day of the NACTA DIII Tournament.

In the first event of the day the Knights competed in the compulsory, toss, and tumbling heats. Calvin had a start value of 14.85 and received a final score of 14.85 with their highest score of 7.100 coming in the pyramid heat. Stevenson had a start value of 34.00 and received a final score of 21.68.

In the acro event Calvin had a start value of 25.60 and received a score of 19.70 while the Mustangs had a start value of 27.40 and finished with a 20.68.

In the last event before halftime, the Knights competed in the pyramid event where they had a start value of 27.40 and received a score of 22.33. Their highest score came in the open heat where they posted a score of 7.98. Stevenson had a start value of 29.50 and received a score of 20.20. After three events, the Knights trailed the Thunder 56.88 to 62.56.

Competition continued after halftime with the toss event where Calvin had a start value of 25.90 and received a score of 18.40 while Stevenson had a start value of 26.10 and received a final score of 18.10.

Up next, the Knights participated in the tumbling event, which considered a duo pass, a trio pass, a quad pass, an aerial pass, a six-element pass, and an open pass. Calvin had a start value of 44.60 and finished with a score of 32.975 with their best score of 7.925 coming in the aerial pass. The Mustangs had a start value of 42.75 and received a score of 31.450.Â

Normally both teams would end the night by competing in the team event however, neither team had enough athletes to compete so the meet came to a conclusion.

At the end of competition, the Knights fell just short as they were defeated by Stevenson 108.250 to 112.750.

COACHES COMMENTS: "With the Knights in their second appearance in the division three tournament, we were all extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that we worked up in season to get us to where we are today," said head coach Tiffani Lincoln. "We're looking forward to running it back again tomorrow for day two of D3."
