Calvin University has made the difficult decision to discontinue its varsity acrobatics and tumbling program following the upcoming season.
"This was not a decision we made lightly," said Jim Timmer, director of athletics. "We are grateful for the student-athletes, coaches, and staff who have invested so much into building this program. Their commitment, perseverance, and passion have been evident from the very beginning."
Acrobatics and tumbling was introduced at Calvin as part of an effort to thoughtfully grow and diversify opportunities within our athletics program. While the program showed promise, it has faced ongoing challenges in roster size and long-term sustainability.
The Calvin acrobatics and tumbling program began in 2023 under the leadership of head coach Ellen Barker with the first year of competition taking place in 2025. Barker departed to pursue graduate studies after the conclusion of the 2025 campaign. Tiffani Lincoln was appointed as head coach of acrobatics and tumbling in the summer of 2025.
"As we look to the future, we are committed to providing a strong and sustainable athletics experience for all of our student-athletes," Timmer said. "That includes continuing to evaluate how we best align our sports offerings with student interest, competitive opportunities, and institutional resources, while ensuring equitable opportunities across our programs."
Calvin will honor its commitments to current student-athletes and work closely with each individual to support their academic and athletic goals moving forward.
"We are especially thankful for Coach Tiffani Lincoln, who stepped into her role this year with energy and care for her student-athletes," Timmer added. "We are committed to supporting her and our team through this transition."
