Calvin Acrobatics and Tumbling Picks Up First Win of the Season at NCATA DIII Tournament

MARSHALL, Tx. - Today the Calvin acrobatics and tumbling team continued its weekend at the NCATA DIII Tournament where it once again competed against the Mustangs of Stevenson.
 
Up first, the Knights competed in the compulsory event which included acro, pyramid, toss and tumbling heats. Calvin had a start value of 32.00 and received a score of 18.28 with their highest score of 5.65 coming in the acro heat. Stevenson had a start value of 34.00 and received a final score of 21.90.
 
In the acro event Calvin had a start value of 25.60 and received a score of 19.98 while the Mustangs had a start value of 27.40 and finished with a score of 16.48.
 
In the last event before halftime, Calvin competed in the pyramid event where they had a start value of 27.40 and received a score of 23.90. Their highest score came in the open heat where they posted a score of 8.30. Stevenson had a start value of 29.50 and received a 22.38. After three events, the Knights led Stevenson 62.16 to 60.76. 
 
The meet continued when both teams competed in the toss event to start the second half. Calvin had a start value of 25.90 and received a score of 18.30 while Stevenson had a start value of 26.10 and received a score of 19.83.
 
Up next, the Knights participated in the tumbling event, which consisted of a duo pass, a trio pass, a quad pass, an aerial pass, a six-element pass, and an open pass. Calvin had a start value of 44.60 and finished with a score of 33.925 with their best performance of 8.10 coming in the aerial pass. Stevenson had a start value of 42.75 and finished with a score of 31.350.
 
Normally, the teams would compete in the team event as their final event of the meet. However, neither team had enough athletes to compete, so the meet came to a conclusion.
 
At the end of competition, the Knights emerged victorious as they defeated the Mustangs 114.375 to 111.925 and claimed their first win of the season.
 
COACHES COMMENTS: "Words cannot describe how proud I am of this team for really pushing it to the limit and turning it around," said head coach Tiffani Lincoln. "They had to fight through injuries and adversity today and they demonstrated their true character. They represented themselves and their school with dignity and class. I am so very proud of them. It was a great ending to a challenging season."
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action tomorrow when they close out their weekend at the NCATA DIII Tournament at 11 AM (CT).
