Calvin Women's Swimming and Diving Claims MIAA Event Titles on Day 4 of MIAA Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. – Calvin crowned two individual event championships and one relay title on the final night of competition at the MIAA Championships presented by Collegiate Credit Union.

Sophomore Zoe Poe (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette Twp.) captured the 1650 freestyle title while junior Elise Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./Brookewood School) won the MIAA crown in the 200 butterfly. Calvin also claimed a win in the 400 freestyle relay.

Poe opened the scoring on Saturday with a first place time of 17:11.60 in the 1650 freestyle. It marks the second straight year she has won the MIAA title in the event with her time this year more than 18 seconds faster than her winning time in 2025. Poe was part of a 1-3 finish in the race with freshman Avery Russell (Battle Creek, Mich./Battle Creek Lakeview HS) third with a career-best time of 18:03.60. Senior Kailee Turner (Monroe, Mich./Monroe HS) was 10th (19:34.03).

Bajwa's win came later in the meet on Saturday and came off the heels of a school-record swim in the 100 breaststroke Friday night. Bajwa sat in second place through the first half of Saturday's race before grabbing the lead with close to 75 yards left in the race. She powered through her final 50 and won the race in an NCAA B' cut qualifying time of 2:19.39, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of Madi Remenschneider of Hope. Bajwa's time places her in the top 20 nationally. She is the seventh individual in Calvin women's swimming history to win the MIAA title in the race.

Bajwa was part of a 1-5-7-8 Calvin finish in the race. Junior Gracie Ganger (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippercanoe HS) was fifth (2:22.83), sophomore Eloise Harrison (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern HS) seventh (2:28.40) and senior Elyse Radawski (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) eighth (2:28.83). Junior Anya Hopek (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) took 11th (2:35.35).

Calvin went 4-5-7-8 in the championship final of the 100 freestyle. Sophomore Ella Andrews (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) was fourth (52.11), senior Meghan Bengelink (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) fifth (52.34), sophomore Maria Heeres (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) seventh (53.46) and freshman Holly VanderWeele (San Antonio, Tx/Great Hearts Monte Vista North) eighth (53.61). In the consolation finals, senior Kristin Winkle (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) added a 12th place finish (55.58) with Algera 13th (55.59).

Junior Emma Merkel (Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS) was second in the 200 backstroke with an NCAA B' cut qualifying time of 2:01.37. Senior Madi McNearney (Riverside, Mo./Park Hill South HS) was eighth (2:10.52). Senior Tori Beigle (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey HS) was 10th (2:15.95).

In the 200 butterfly, sophomore Alea Casipit (Midland, Mich./Herbert Henry Dow) had a great race, winning the consolation final in 2:23.32 to place ninth overall. In the championship finals, sophomore Grace Schutter (Shelby Township, Mich./Dwight D. Eisenhower) had a monster race, taking second in a career-best time of 2:13.31. Senior Elizabeth Dylewski (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Bloomfield HS) was fourth (2:15.96) and sophomore Vivian Rizer seventh (2:22.20).

Calvin placed two in the championship finals of the one-meter diving competition with junior Veronica Skipper (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) fifth (416.25) and junior Leah Schouten (St. Davids, Ontario/Eden) eighth (375.20).

Calvin capped off the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay, marking its first win in the race since 2023. The relay of Merkel, Andrews, Heeres and Bengelink won the race with a season-best and NCAA B' cut qualifying time of 3:28.14. Calvin took second in the consolation final for 10th place overall. The relay of VanderWeele, Algera, Poe and Radawski clocked in with a time of 3:36.91.

Calvin finished second in the final team standings with 980 points. Hope claimed the overall team title with 1,284 points with Kalamazoo third at 466.
