Calvin Women's Swimming & Diving Land Four on CSC Academic All-District List

Four members of the Calvin women's swimming and diving team have received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. Receiving CSC Academic All-District accolades are seniors Meghan Bengelink, Elyse Radawski, junior Emma Merkel and sophomore Zoe Poe.

To receive CSC Academic All-District accolades, individuals must be a sophomore year or higher in academic standing, hold a cumulative 3.50 grade point average and posted a top-eight individual finish at their conference championship meet. Schools could nominate a maximum of four individuals.

In addition, Poe and Merkel both advanced to the national ballot and are now eligible for CSC Academic All-America consideration.

ELYSE RADAWSKI (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS)

Elyse Radawski is receiving CSC Academic All-District honors for the first time. She is a civil engineering major and has been a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and Calvin Dean's List.

At the MIAA Championships in February, she placed seventh in the 50 freestyle, eighth in the 200 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 butterfly. She also competed at the NCAA III Championships last month in the 200 freestyle relay and 200 and 400 medley relays.

MEGHAN BENGELINK (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS)

Bengelink is receiving CSC Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive year. She is a nursing major. Bengelink has been a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and Calvin Dean's List. This winter, Bengelink earned her first career All-MIAA honor as a senior by anchoring four Calvin relays. The 400 freestyle relay finished first, while the 200 freestyle, 200 medley and 400 medley relays each finished second at the event. In individual competition, Bengelink finished fourth in the 50 freestyle with an NCAA III 'B' cut time of 23.45, fifth in the 100 freestyle (52.34) and eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.71), setting new personal-best times in each event.

She also competed at the NCAA III Championships last month, swimming in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle as well as the 200 and 400 freestyle relays and 200 and 400 medley relays.

EMMA MERKEL (Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS)

Merkel is receiving CSC Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive year. She is a nursing major. Merkel has been a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and Calvin Dean's List. This winter, Merkel earned her third consecutive All-MIAA honor in her third season of competition. She won the 200 freestyle in an NCAA III 'B' cut time of 1:50.04 while also taking second in the 200 backstroke (2:01.37) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:07.0). In relay events, she swam the leadoff leg to help Calvin win the 400 freestyle relay while also helping Calvin to second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 400 medley relays.

Merkel then competed at the NCAA III Championships last month, swimming in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle as well as in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.

ZOE POE (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette Twp.)

Poe is receiving CSC Academic All-District honors for the first time. She is a business/ entrepreneurship major. She has been a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and Calvin Dean's List. This winter, Poe earned a spot on the All-MIAA team for a second straight year. Poe won the 1650 freestyle in an MIAA-record time of 17:11.6. She also took second in the 500 freestyle (4:59.79) and fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:34.89). In the relays, Poe helped Calvin to a second-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay and also swam in the consolation final of the 400 freestyle relay, helping the Calvin 'B' relay take second place in that final.

She qualified for the NCAA III Championships and claimed 2nd Team Division III All-America honors in the 1650 freestyle, placing 13th in the race. She also swam in the 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly.
