Calvin Women's Acrobatics and Tumbling Makes History with First Competitive Meet

RESULTS

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Calvin women's acrobatics and tumbling team made history on Friday night, taking the floor for the first time in a competitive dual meet.

Calvin made its program debut at Adrian College Friday night in a dual meet. The Knights were defeated 192-158.4 but took away a wealth of positives from the competition.

The Knights opened the six-event competition with the compulsory event that included acro, pyramid, toss and tumbling stages. With a start value of 32 points, Calvin earned 17.05. Adrian began with a start value of 36.0 points and earned 29.65 points.

In its three heats of the acro event, Calvin begin with a start value of 24.70 points and earned an impressive score of 20.95. Adrian began with a start value of 26.35 and earned 20.0 points with the Knights recording their first-ever rotation win.

In the exciting pyramid competition, Calvin had a start value of 27.50 and earned a strong final score of 23.40. Adrian had a start value of 27.70 and earned a final score of 25.25.

Moving into the three-round toss event, Calvin began with a starting value of 26.00 and earned a final score of 20.20. Adrian also had a starting value of 26.00 and earned a score of 22.25.

In the six-round tumbling event, Calvin had a start value of 45.20 and recorded a final score of 38.444. Adrian had a start value of 45.10 and earned a final score of 37.490 as Calvin captured its second rotation win.

Adrian was able to rebuild its margin of victory up in the final competition – the team event. The host Bulldogs had a start value of 74.81 and scored 57.36. Calvin had a start value of 61.16 and scored 38.36.

COACHES COMMENT: "I am incredibly proud of our team for laying an incredible foundation for Calvin acrobatics and tumbling," said Calvin head acrobatics and tumbling coach Ellen Barker. "Today was about our team experiencing a meet day for the first time, and I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did. Winning the acro event and the tumbling event was just an extra bonus. Can't wait to continue progressing throughout the season. I also wanted to thank (Calvin Director of Athletics) Jim Timmer and the entire Calvin athletics communication who have been so supportive of our team."

NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Buffalo State on March 6 for a meet set to start at 11 a.m.
