DAY ONE PRELIMS RESULTS / DAY ONE FINALS RESULTS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Today the Calvin women's swim and dive welcomed Grand Valley State, Northern Michigan, Indiana Wesleyan, Lawrence and Findlay to Venema Aquatic Center for day one of the Calvin Winter Invite. The Knights are in fourth place in the team standings with 343 points.

In the first event of the evening sophomore Ella Andrews (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian School), junior Emma Merkel (Wyoming, Mich./Grandville), junior Elise Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./Brookewood School), and senior Meghan Bengelink (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) gave Calvin a boost when they took third in the 200 free relay. The Knights posted a time of 1:34.49 which was enough to make the women's NCAA B' cut.

Sophomore Zoe Poe (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette Twp.) also made the NCAA B' cut in the 500 freestyle when she finished in third with a time of 4:49.19. Calvin continued their time in the pool when sophomore Gracie Ganger (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippercanoe) placed sixth in the B final and fourteenth overall in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.00.

In the 50 freestyle, Andrews finished in fifth place (23.76) while Bengelink was close behind in seventh place (23.78). In the final event of the evening, Merkel, Bajwa, Holly VanderWeele (San Antonio, Tx./Great Hearts Monte Vista North), and Bengelink finished the 400 medley in seventh place with a time of 3:51.86.

COACHES COMMENTS: "I think we got better as we went which is what we were trying to do," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "We're trying to see who is going to provide the spark and swim as a team. I think we built upon what we did this morning. We saw that show up in the relays where we got some B cuts and made a lot of improvements from our morning swims. Tonight, we will focus on resting and refueling so that we can recover quickly and bring the energy again tomorrow morning."
