2023-24 Year in Review: Calvin Women's Tennis

As we head into the summer of 2024, we are looking back on the highlights from the 2023-24 athletic season at Calvin University as part of our Year in Review Series.

The Calvin women's tennis team finished the 2023-24 season with a second-place finish in the MIAA standings 17-3 overall and took second in the MIAA with a 7-1 record.

Here were some of the highlights of the Knights' season…

Most Wins Since 2010

The Knights finished the season with 17 wins, marking the highest program total since the 2010 season. Calvin won its first seven matches of the season in non-conference action before its first defeat, and then closed the season 7-1 in league play to take second in the final MIAA standings.

Shoemaker Finishes Undefeated

Junior Maggie Shoemaker (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) went a perfect 17-0 in singles action this season. Playing out of the fourth spot in the singles line-up all year, Shoemaker closed with an undefeated record overall and included a 7-0 league mark. She also finished the season ranked 14th in the ITA Division III Central Rankings.

Lewis, Minnema Only Drop One

The Knights' depth was critical to their terrific season, and juniors Averi Lewis (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin) and Delanie Minnema (East Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian) followed Shoemaker's perfect season with matching 16-1 records in the numbers five and six spots in the line-up. Minnema went a perfect 7-0 in MIAA play and was ranked 16th in the ITA Division III Central Rankings, while Lewis went 6-1 in league play.
