HOLLAND, Mich. – The Calvin University women's tennis team's season came to an end with a 4-0 loss at Hope College in Saturday's MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament final.
Calvin (10-8), playing in its first MIAA Tournament final since the 2018 season, could not take down top-seeded Hope (16-7) as the Flying Dutch earned the doubles point and then three singles matches to close out the match.
In doubles, Hope started strong with a 6-2 win at the number-two spot, followed by a 6-3 win in the number-three match to roll into singles play with a 1-0 overall lead.
In singles play, the Flying Dutch needed only three wins and earned the first two wins in the numbers-two and four spots in the line-up to push their lead to 3-0.
Calvin's
Sabrina Lopez (Steger, Ill./Illiana Christian) and
Elise Norman (Kalamazoo, Mich./Lakeview) forced third sets in their matches at the numbers-five and spot spots, but Hope closed the match with a win in the number-one match to secure the 4-0 finish.
