GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's swimming and diving team built a first-place team score of 497 points on day one of the Calvin Quad Invitational. The four-team invitational also includes schools from Albion, Carthage and Ohio Northern.
Friday night featured the first of three sessions with a Saturday morning and Saturday evening session also scheduled on the books.
Calvin opened the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:39.07. The winning Calvin relay included sophomore
Sydney Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), sophomore
Haley Thier (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep), senior
Claire Sytsma (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and freshman
Meghan Bengelink (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS).
In the 200 IM, Calvin junior
Isabella Gable (Greenville, Oh./Arcanum-Butler) took first place in a time of 2:10.17 that ranks 10
th nationally. Freshman
Elyse Radawski (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) was third in a time of 2:15.71.
In the 50 freestyle, junior
Maggie Farrell (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS) was second (24.37).
Sophomore
Kiah Heminghous (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) won the three-meter diving competition with a score of 330.25.
Calvin's 400 medley relay team of Sytsma, Radawski, junior
Natalie Fisher (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) and Bengelink took second in a time of 4:10.71.
Saturday's competition begins with session No. 2 at 10 a.m. inside the Venema Aquatic Center.
