ANGOLA, Ind. – The Calvin women's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches on Saturday with a 9-0 victory at Trine. The victory moves Calvin to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in MIAA play. Saturday's 9-0 victory marked the fifth-straight 9-0 victory for Calvin.
"Today was another good win for us," said Calvin head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "We came out strong in doubles and really played some clean singles. We need to have a good couple days of practice to get ready for a big week of matches."
Junior Lark Foote (Okemos, Mich./Home School) and freshman Anna Asfour (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) started the day with an 8-2 victory over Abby Hoge and Kyra Braun at No. 3 doubles. This was the first match for the two together.
Junior duo Jessica Bouma (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) and Micaela Seazzu (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia) topped Tarah Brennan and Kristin Riise at No. 2 doubles, 8-1. The victory moves the duo to 11-2 on the season.
The senior duo of Ellie Benzel (San Dimas, Calif./San Dimas) and Claire Spoelhof (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) were victorious over Madison Hatkevich and Kinnsey Pass at No.1 doubles, 8-5. The senior team is now 4-1 in MIAA matches.
Claire Spoelhof made quick work of Madison Hatkevich at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Spoelhof is now 5-1 in MIAA singles play.
Jessica Bouma clinched the match for Calvin with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tarah Brennan at No. 2 singles. Bouma is now has now won six-straight matches and is 5-1 in the MIAA.
Anna Asfour brought the broom with her to No. 4 singles and swept Carlee Richardson, 6-0, 6-0. Asfour has won her last six matches and moves to 5-1 in MIAA action.
Lark Foote downed Abby Hoge at No. 5 singles on Saturday, 6-1, 6-3. Foote is now 5-1 at No. 5 singles.
Ellie Benzel shut down Kinnsey Pass at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Benzel has won her last to matches and is 5-4 at No. 3 singles.
Junior Kari Kroeze (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) closed the match at No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Kyra Braun. Kroeze remains perfect in the MIAA at 5-0 on the year.
The Knights return to action on Wednesday for a key MIAA match at Saint Mary's the Knights will then close the regular season on Saturday at home against Kalamazoo.
