Two members of the Calvin University men's tennis team were named All-MIAA First Team by the conference on Wednesday.
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil/COC Universitario) and
Caleb Bartels (Loch Lloyd, Mo./Kansas City Christian) each earned the honor after helping the Knights to a 6-1 finish in MIAA play, good for second place in the final conference standings, to go with an 8-8 overall record.
Calvin will return to action today (Wednesday, April 29) when it hosts Hope College in the semifinal round of the MIAA Tournament inside at the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
Rodrigo Alipio
Alipio earned All-MIAA First Team for the second consecutive season as a junior. Alipio played atop the singles line-up throughout the season for the Knights and recorded an 11-4 record, including a 6-1 mark in MIAA play in singles. Alipio also played in the top spot in doubles and finished with an 8-8 record with a 5-2 doubles record in MIAA contests.
Over the last two seasons playing in the one-singles spot in the line-up, Alipio holds a 28-6 record and is 12-2 in MIAA play.
Caleb Bartels
Bartels also won All-MIAA honors for the second straight season after being named All-MIAA Second Team as a freshman in 2025. This season, Bartels opened the season 0-5 in singles before winning 11 straight matches to close the season, including 10 in the two-singles spot, and went a perfect 7-0 in league play. He also went 8-8 in doubles on the season, including 5-2 in MIAA play.
In his two-year career, Bartels is 12-2 in MIAA matches in singles.
