The Calvin University baseball and softball teams welcome the public to attend conference contests this week that will include celebratory activities and fun.
The celebratory activities are part of Calvin's 150th Anniversary Celebration as an institution.Â
The Calvin softball team will host rival Hope in a key conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Gainey Athletic Complex. Admission is free. Grilled hotdogs and chips will be available beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Calvin softball game. Food trucks featuring Popnotch brand gourmet popcorn and acai bowls from Playa Bowls will be available for purchase. A slow-pitch home run contest will also take place. Competitors will pay  $5 for 3 pitches (cash only). Competitors that hit a home run will win a prize with an additional cash prize given out to the competitor who hits the longest home run.
The Calvin softball team will enter the doubleheader at 25-11 overall and 11-3 in the MIAA with the Knights currently holding second place in the league standings heading into next week's MIAA Tournament. Hope is 26-8 overall and 9-3 in the MIAA. The Flying Dutch are tied for third place in the league standings. Â
Meanwhile, the Calvin baseball team will host Trine University Thursday night at
LCMU Ballpark in nearby Comstock Park.
LMCU Ballpark is the home for the
High A West Michigan Whitecaps. Game time for the Calvin-Trine contest is 7 p.m. with admission $5.00 for adults. Calvin students with an ID will be admitted free as will children 12 and under. All tickets will be general admission.
Select concession stands will be open for food and drink throughout the evening. LMCU Ballpark is a cashless facility so please come prepared to pay with card. Parking at the facility will be free.
Thursday will mark the second straight year Calvin has played at LMCU Ballpark. A year ago, Calvin defeated rival Hope 9-0 at the facility.
