Calvin University sophomore Diego Castellanos was named MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday.
 
Castellanos (Tarija, Bolivia/La Salle Tarija) won the honor his performance in the Knights' 4-3 win over Hope College in Saturday's MIAA opener at the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
 
In the win, Calvin overcame a 1-0 deficit after doubles play with three early wins in singles. Needing a fourth point for the team win, Castellanos earned a win in his four-singles match in a third set by the scores of 7-6 (7-0), 2-6, 6-4 to secure the fourth and final point in front of a strong contingent of fans from both schools.
 
The win was the Knights' second over Hope in men's tennis since the 2018 season and helped them start conference play with a 1-0 record.
 
Calvin men's tennis is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 4, when it plays at Alma College at 11:00 AM.
