Calvin ACHA D1 Hockey Receives GL6 Conference Awards - Ickes Repeats as GL6 MVP

The Calvin ACHA D1 hockey team recently received a raft of GL6 post-season conference awards.

Led by Calvin head coach Josh Petrusma, the Knights finished second in the final GL6 regular season standings with a 10-2-0 conference mark and 29 points, one point behind league-leading Adrian.

The GL6 conference has honored Calvin senior forward Steven Ickes as its Most Valuable Player. Ickes and sophomore defenseman Hayden Zimmerman have been named to the GL6 All-Conference 1st Team.

Senior forward Krzyzstof Petryla has been named to the GL6 All-Conference 2nd Team.

Freshman forward Marshall Beaker has been named to the GL6 All-Rookie Team.

Junior defenseman Holden Pratt and junior forward Joel Fonovic have been named to the GL6 All-Defensive Team.  

STEVEN ICKES (Marine City, MI/Oakland Jr Grizzlies (HPHL)

Ickes is receiving GL6 Most Valuable Player honors for the second straight year. He has tallied 21 goals, 35 assists and 56 points this year. He has been a key special teams player for the Knights, scoring six power play goals. Four of his goals this year have been game-winning tallies. He has over 200 points in his collegiate career with 77 goals, 131 assists and 208 points.

HAYDEN ZIMMERMAN (Grand Rapids, MI Janesville Jets (NAHL)

Zimmerman recently finished his second year as a regular on Calvin's defensive unit. He has 10 goals, 17 assists and four power play goals as he also served a key member of Calvin's penalty kill and power play units. Two of his goals this year were game-winning goals.


KRZYZSTOF PETRYLA (Krynica-Zdroj, PL Waterloo Siskins (GOJHL)

Petryla has been a key member of Calvin's offensive attack over the last four years. The forward has had another strong year, recording 19 goals, 30 assists and 49 points. He has scored three power play goals and four game-winning goals. He has over 200 points in his collegiate career with 89 goals, 120 assists and 209 points.

MARSHALL BEAKER (Brighton, Mich. PAL Jr Islanders (NCDC)

Beaker has been a regular in Calvin's defensive unit this year while also playing a key role on the power play and penalty kill. He has 11 goals, 17 assists and 28 points this year. Seven of his goals have been on the power play.

HOLDEN PRATT (Grandville, Mich. Grandville HS / Aberdeen Wings (NAHL)

Pratt is another key piece on Calvin's defensive unit. He shook off injuries this year to score two goals while assisting on nine for 11 points. He has one power play goal this season and one game-winning goal.

JOEL FONOVIC (Ann Arbor, MI/Chatham Maroons (GOJHL)

Fonovic has been a key checking forward for the Knights with the ability to score timely goals. He has nine goals, four assists and 13 points. He has two power play goals and two game-winning goals on the season.

Calvin is preparing to open ACHA D1 Tournament play on Thursday afternoon when it faces the University of Rhode Island in a first round tournament  game at 1:30 p.m. (CT) in St. Louis. Missouri.
