Calvin Hockey Downs Drury in Overtime - Advances to ACHA D1 National Quarterfinals

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the first time in program history, the Calvin ACHA Division I hockey team is headed to the quarterfinals of the ACHA D1 National Tournament.

The Knights advanced to the quarterfinal round with a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime victory over No. 6 Drury University. The Knights will face Niagara University in a quarterfinal game on March 15 at 1:30 p.m. (CT) in St. Louis.

Sophomore Owen Schrader's sudden-death overtime goal 15:59 into extra time lifted the Knights to the victory.

Calvin trailed 2-0 after just five minutes of play in the first period and later trailed 3-1 before mounting a dogged comeback effort.

Drury took a 1-0 lead 3:15 into the contest and then went up 2-0 less than a minute later.

A late first period goal by senior Krzyzstof Petryla gave the Knights a lifeline, making it 2-1 heading into the first intermission.

Drury grabbed a 3-1 lead midway through the second but freshman Marshall Beaker scored with 5:49 left in the second to bring the Knights within one.

Petryla then scored his second goal of the game just 1:16 into the third to tie the game at three.

Neither team scored the rest of regulation, sending it to overtime.

In overtime, Calvin fought off a Drury power play and found gold on its end with a Schrader goal with 4:01 left in overtime for the win.

Calvin held a 46-34 shots on goal advantage. Sophomore Aidan Feddema got the win in goal for the Knights, recording 31 saves.

COACHES COMMENT: "Today was a big step forward for our program," said Calvin head coach Josh Petrusma. "Drury is a strong team anbd they had a fantastic season. That game could have gone either way. I was so proud of our belief tonight. No matter the score, we just kept going. What an awesome moment for Schader to get the overtime winner. He's such a hard working and dedicated player. It's a special moment for him and for our team and program. (Aidan) Feddema shut the door and allowed us time to get back into it. Overall it was a great experience and we have another opportunity in the quarterfinals against a very good team in Niagara."
