ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Calvin skated to a 5-0 victory over the University of Rhode Island in a first round ACHA D1 National Tournament game Thursday afternoon.
Calvin improves to 21-8-2 overall with the win and advances to the second round where it will face No. 6 seed Drury University on Friday at 1:30 p.m. (CT). Calvin is the No. 11 seed in the tournament.
The Knights grabbed the lead against Rhode Island with 9:02 left in the first period as senior

The Knights made the 1-0 lead hold into the period break.
Calvin struck just 54 seconds into the second period with sophomore
Tony Eaton whipping in a shot off an assist from sophomore
Owen Schrader to make it 2-0.
Calvin was whistled for a two-minute penalty just over nine minutes into the second period, forcing the Knights to fill off a Rhode Island power play.
The Knights did just that and then some as freshman
Josh Hooper and Ickes broke free for shorthanded goals just 21 seconds apart. The Hooper goal came at the 10 minute mark off a feed from junior
Joel Fonovic. Just 21 seconds later, Ickes received a pass from freshman
Marshall Beaker and fired it home for a 4-0 Calvin advantage.
Calvin added an insurance goal with 8:14 left in regulation as junior
Holden Pratt slapped home a shot assisted by Schrader and Hooper to put the capper on the win.
Calvin held a 44-27 shots on goal advantage. Sophomore
Aidan Feddema made all 27 saves for the Knights in picking up the shutout win. Nicholas Maringola took the loss in goal for Rhode Island, making 39 saves.
COACHES COMMENT: "Despite, the score, this wasn't our best effort," said Calvin head coach
Josh Petrusma. "We needed to be harder on the puck in our defensive zone. We improved throughout the game, but we'll need to be better from the start against Drury on Saturday. I was happy with our structure outside of that and we got a great performance in net from (Aidan) Feddema."
