Calvin University defensive lineman Peter Markvluwer was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for football on Monday.

Markvluwer (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) earned the honor after a stellar performance in the Knights' 17-12 win at Adrian College on Saturday, October 3.

In the five-point win, Markvluwer recorded three tackles, two sacks, one pass break up, one forced fumble and blocked one field goal to lead a defensive effort that held the Bulldogs to only 12 points.

This season, Markvluwer has recorded 11 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks to help the Knights to a 5-0 start to the season and 2-0 start to MIAA play.

Calvin football has a bye this week and will return to action on Saturday, October 17, when it hosts Kalamazoo College in a game scheduled to kick off at 12:00 PM.
