Calvin junior defensive tackle Peter Markvluwer has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week. A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School, Markvluwer played a key role in helping the Calvin football team gain a 17-12 victory at Adrian last Saturday.

In the game, Markvluwer had three tackles including a pair of sacks. He also blocked an extra-point attempt, swatted down an Adrian pass at the line of scrimmage and forced a fourth-quarter fumble.

Markvluwer was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. He is the third player from Calvin to receive D3football.com Team of the Week honors this fall as senior quarterback Thomas Vaccaro and junior safety Caden Kolanowski were previously honored with the award.

The Calvin football team is off to a 5-0 start including a 2-0 mark in the MIAA. The Knights and the rest of the MIAA have a conference bye this week. Calvin returns to action on October 17 when it hosts Kalamazoo College at noon at Knight Stadium.
