Calvin Women's Golf Picked to Finish Fourth in MIAA Preseason Poll

The Calvin women's golf team has been picked to finish fourth in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll released Friday morning.

Under the direction of head coach Jerry Bergsma, Calvin placed fourth last season in the final MIAA standings. Calvin produced a team scoring average of 333.0 strokes-per-round. The MIAA season is a series of cumulative rounds with teams competing in the fall, breaking for the winter, and concluding with a short series of spring MIAA rounds.

Calvin returns a strong nucleus of returning golfers led by junior Andrea Diemer (Wyoming, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) who was a member of the 2024-25 All-MIAA Second Team. Diemer finished 12th in the final MIAA standings last season with an average of 83.33 strokes-per-round.

Senior Kayla Adkins (Springfield, Il./Springfield HS) and sophomore Brooke Haney (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester HS) are also key returners. Both posted sub-90 scoring averages in league play in 2024-25. Haney averaged 87.17 and Adkins 87.33 strokes-per-round. Junior Gina Sonday (Portland, Mich./Portland HS) also returns after posting an average of 89.17 last season.

Saint Mary's is the preseason MIAA favorite. The Belles received five first place votes with Trine second with four first place votes. Adrian is picked to finish third.

Calvin opens its season on August 29 and 30 with a two-day head-to-head competition with rival Hope. Calvin will host the opening day at the Thornapple Golf Club and then journey to the Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck the following afternoon.

Calvin will also host the first MIAA Jamboree (round) of the 2025-26 season. The competition will be held at the Thornapple Pointe Golf Club with tee times set for 2 p.m.
