Four members of the Calvin University women's golf program were named to the All-American Scholar Team by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Monday.
Â
The four student-athletes include graduate student
Chandler Sjoerdsma (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King) and juniors
Kayla Adkins (Springfield, Ill./Springfield),
Grace Elfring (Laingsburg, Mich./Laingsburg) and
Gina Sonday (Portland, Mich./Portland).
Â
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must first the following criteria:Â
- Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher
- Be an amateur and on the team through the conclusion of the season
- Played in at least 50 percent of the team's competitive rounds throughout the season and all the way through the team's conference championship
This marks the second academic honor this season for Sjoerdsma, Elfring and Sonday, who were each named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) earlier this month.
Â
Sjoerdsma, Sonday and Adkins also received WGCA All-American Scholar Team honors last season.
Â
The four honorees helped the Knights to a fourth-place finish in the final MIAA standings this season after six conference events.
