MARSHALL, Mich. – The Calvin University women's golf team recorded a strong opening day at the Kyle Campbell Memorial Tournament at Medalist GC on Friday to start a two-day tournament hosted by The University of Olivet.
The Knights finished the first round with a team score of 334 total strokes despite windy conditions, good for third place in the team standings out of 16 teams at the event.
Kayla Adkins (Springfield, Ill./Springfield) led Calvin's opening-round effort with a score of 80 to tie for sixth place in the individual standings, while
Andrea Diemer (Wyoming, Mich./Calvin Christian) finished just behind her with an 81 to tie for eighth place.
Brooke Haney (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) was the third Calvin finisher with a score of 84, followed by
Gina Sonday (Portland, Mich./Portland) with a round of 89.
Ava McConnon (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian) rounded out the Calvin five-person line-up with a score of 91.
Elizabeth Van Dusseldorp (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) shot 103 playing as a wild card.
Kalamazoo College finished the day in first place with a team score of 329, followed by Saint Mary's College (Ind.) in second with 332.

Jerry Bergsma said. "The upperclassmen led us with their experience on a difficult course. We're looking forward to be back on the course early tomorrow to chase down the teams ahead of us."
NEXT UP: Calvin women's golf returns to action tomorrow (Saturday, September 6) when it plays the second and final round of the Kyle Campbell Memorial Tournament at Medalist GC. Golfers are scheduled to tee off at 8:30 AM.
