GREENSBORO, NC – A pair of All-America swims boosted Calvin into 12
th place in the final team standings at the NCAA III Championships on Saturday. The finish is Calvin's highest-team placement since 2018.

Maggie Farrell (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), junior
Meghan Bengelink (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS), sophomore
Emma Merkel (Wyoming, Mich./Grandville HS) and senior
Sydney Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS) took second in the consolation final on Saturday including 10
th overall with a time of 3:24.83. The finish is good for a Division III Second Team All-America berth. Farrell led off the relay with a career-best time of 50.84 in her 100 freestyle leg.
Freshman
Zoe Poe (Bridgeville, Pa. South Fayette Twp.) also claimed a Second Team All-America berth in the 1,650 freestyle, placing 16
th in the race with a time of 17:12.57. In placing 16
th, Poe gave Calvin a perfect 6-for-6 showing as all six of its swimmers at the national meet earned at least one point and recorded an All-America placement.
Merkel competed for Calvin in the 200 backstroke in the morning prelims, placing 21
st in 2:02.41 while Sonday was 32
nd in the prelims of the 100 freestyle in 51.31.
COACHES COMMENT: "Really pleased with this group and how it competed all week," said Calvin head coach
Dan Gelderloos. "Our seniors went out on a high note, swimming some of the best races of their careers. Our younger swimmers had strong performances and contributed very well. That should fuel them moving forward with an eye looking towards next season."
