Hunter Hogan have been named to the All-MIAA Second Team. All four players are receiving All-MIAA honors for the first time.
CARSON SCHNURSTEIN (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS)
A middle linebacker, Schnurstein was a force for the Calvin defense this fall, racking up 114 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 6 six sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. In conference games only, he finished third in the MIAA in tackles (71), fourth in interceptions (2) and second in forced fumbles (2). He concluded the season ranked among the top five players in the MIAA across all positions in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, and fumble recoveries. On a national level, he placed within the top seven linebackers in tackles, forced fumbles, tackles for loss, and interceptions. His on-field performance has had a direct and measurable impact on game outcomes. Notably, he recorded a pivotal interception against Heidelberg that shifted the momentum and contributed to the Knights' eventual overtime victory. Additionally, in a one-score contest against Olivet, he produced an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery on consecutive defensive series, each occurring in opponent territory and leading to scoring opportunities for the Knights. He was named MIAA Player of the Week once. He was also named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week on September 19 for his play in a win over eventual NCAA III Tournament team Concordia University of Wisconsin.
C.J. SHEETS (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary HS)
A defensive lineman, Sheets made an immediate impact in his first year in a Calvin uniform after transferring over from nearby Davenport University. Sheets recorded 16 tackles, three sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. In conference play, he recorded 2.5 sacks to rank in the top of the MIAA sack leaders. He helped fuel a Calvin defense that ranked second in the MIAA in conference games in sacks with 20.
BRAYDEN STEINBACHER (Sparta, Mich./Sparta HS)
An offensive guard, Steinbacher played a key role in paving the way on a Calvin offense that averaged 202 rushing yards a game. He was also a key part of a Calvin offensive line that allowed only 22 quarterback sacks this fall, down from 38 allowed during the 2024 season. He helped the Calvin offense average 34.6 points a game which included a 50-point effort against Olivet and a 52-point performance against Albion.
HUNTER HOGAN (Ravenna, Mich./Ravenna HS)
A running back and at times, slot receiver, Hogan had a breakout 2025 campaign, producing 1,454 yards of total offense. He rushed for 868 yards and gathered in 451 receiving yards while racking up 135 yards on kick returns. He led Calvin in touchdowns (10) and points (60). He rushed for eight touchdowns and hauled in two receiving touchdowns as well. He rushed for 100 yards or more in four straight games which included 215 yards against Concordia and 233 yards against Heidelberg. He was named MIAA Player of the Week once. He finished the season with 182 yards of total offense this past Saturday in a win at Albion that included a 24-yard touchdown reception and a 65-yard touchdown run.
Under the direction of head coach
Trent Figg, Calvin finished 7-3 this season, marking a remarkable forward bump in year two of the program. Calvin finished 2-8 in its inaugural 2024 campaign. Picked to finish seventh in the MIAA preseason coaches poll, Calvin also finished fourth in the final 2025 MIAA standings with a 4-3 record.
