FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Calvin University head coach
Ryan Souders has been named the 2025 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Soccer Coach of the Year, earning the honor for the third-consecutive season after guiding the Knights to another successful campaign.
In his 14th year leading the program, Souders directed Calvin to a 5-1-1 conference record and its fourth-straight MIAA Men's Soccer Tournament title. The Knights once again demonstrated their trademark discipline, depth, and balance en route to a 16-3-1 overall record and another NCAA Tournament berth.
Calvin's success was highlighted by several standout individual performances. Three players were named to the 2025 All-MIAA First Team, including MIAA Most Valuable Player Matt Torrell, who anchored the Knights' attack and leadership throughout the season. Another player earned a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team, further emphasizing the program's all-around strength.
Under Souders' leadership, Calvin has become one of the premier Division III programs in the nation, marked by consistent success, player development, and a strong competitive culture. His recognition as Coach of the Year once again reflects the program's continued excellence and his ability to sustain championship-level performance.
"It's an incredible honor to be recognized by our coaching body with this award," Souders commented. "The coaching standard in our league is phenomenal and makes this particularly special. As any coach would say, it takes a village. What a credit to Mason, Brady, Tyler, Sam, Bill, and Jess. We have an invested and beyond capable staff that carries so much of the weight and doesn't get near the credit they deserve. It's also a massive tribute to the team and their willingness to buy in and produce this fall season. Finally, It's a privilege to be a part of an institution that talented and high charactered men want to spend their college careers. Calvin is a special place that we are fortunate to be able to represent."
The Knights will travel to Geneva, New York, for the first round of the NCAA Tournament, where they will face Grove City on Friday, November 14, at 1:30 p.m.
