Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis team opened the 2024-25 season with a 7-0 defeat at Davenport University on Wednesday.
The Panthers started strong in doubles, taking all three matches to secure the one doubles point.
Davenport (1-0) took the number-one match 6-4, followed by 6-2 wins in both the second and third spots in the line-up.
The Panthers continued to be in control in singles, winning each of the six matches in straight sets to secure the overall win.
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil/COC Universitario) dropped his number-one match 6-2 and 6-2 for Calvin.
Felipe Sartori (Estr. Basiléia/Colégio Giusto Zonzini) lost 6-3 and 6-2 in the two spot, followed by a 6-4 and 6-2 defeat for
Caleb Bartels (Belton, Mo./Kansas City Christian) in his number-three match for Calvin (0-1).
Mário Neto (Boa Vista, Brazil/Reino) fell in four-singles 6-4 and 6-4, followed by defeats from
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) (6-2, 6-1) and
Noah Yi (Fullerton, Calif./Valencia) (6-2, 6-0).
NEXT UP: Calvin men's tennis will return to action on Friday, September 13, when it starts the two-day tournament at Hope College at 8:00 AM.
