Patrick Gillen Named MIAA Position Player of the Week

Calvin University sophomore Patrick Gillen was named MIAA Position Player of the Week for baseball on Monday.

Gillen (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach) won the honor after a strong weekend series against Hope College in which the Knights won two of three games to win the series.

In the three-game set, Gillen hit .533 with a .867 slugging percentage and six runs batted in. Three of his eight hits went for extra bases, including a three-run home run in an 8-4 win at Hope on Friday, May 2.

Gillen also broke the Calvin single-season record for total bases (123), shattering the previous mark of 98. His 11 home runs and 68 hits both rank second on the Calvin single-season list, while he also posted top-five single season marks in RBI (46), triples (four), slugging percentage (.750) and runs scored (42). His .415 batting average tied for the fifth-best mark in program history.

This is the second time this season Gillen was named MIAA Position Player of the Week.
