Patrick Gillen Named Second Team All-America by D3baseball.com

Calvin University sophomore Patrick Gillen was named Second Team All-America by the website D3baseball.com on Wednesday.

The honor makes Gillen (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach) the second player in Calvin baseball program history to be named All-America, joining his head coach Kevin Van Duyn, who won the honor in both 1985 and 1987.

Gillen is the first player in program history to win All-America honors from D3baseball.com.

All-American is just the latest of accolades for Gillen following a stellar sophomore campaign. On Tuesday, he was named First Team All-Region by both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA)/Rawlings. He was also named All-MIAA First Team for the second consecutive season.

Playing at third base this season, Gillen finished the season with a .415 batting average, 11 home runs, 14 doubles, four triples and 46 runs batted in (RBI) to go with a school-record 123 total bases.

Already the single-season record holder for doubles (17) and RBI (52) following his 2023 debut season, Gillen's 2024 campaign saw him place second on the single-season list for home runs, hits (68) and RBI.

"Congratulations to Patrick on the unbelievable honor of becoming an All-American," Van Duyn said. "What makes this award so special to me is that, as good a baseball player as Patrick is, he is an even better person. Very well deserved."

The lone MIAA player to be named All-American by D3baseball.com, Gillen closed his second season fourth in program history in career home runs (17), tied for fourth in triples (seven), fifth in RBI (98), seventh in total bases (220), and tied for seventh in doubles (31).

Gillen was also a two-time MIAA Position Player of the Week and was also named National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) in March.

With Gillen leading the charge on offense, Calvin finished the 2024 season with an 18-21 record overall, including a 9-12 record in MIAA play.
