Patrick Gillen Named MIAA Position Player of the Week

Calvin University sophomore third baseman Patrick Gillen was named MIAA Baseball Position Player of the Week on Monday.

Gillen (Jensen Beach, Fla.) won the honor after a stellar week on the Knights' spring break trip in Florida where he hit .485 with seven home runs and 20 runs batted in (RBI).

During the seven-game stretch, Gillen hit at least one home run in four different games, culminating in a three-home run, eight-RBI effort in a 15-10 come from behind win against Pittsburgh at Greensburg in the last game of the trip on Saturday, March 9.

Through 12 games, Gillen leads the nation with 50 total bases and ranks second in NCAA Division III with eight home runs. He also leads the MIAA and ranks ninth in the nation with 22 total RBI.

Gillen's efforts at the plate helped the Knights to a 7-2 trip in Florida, including a five-game winning streak to end the trip.

Calvin baseball will return to action on Friday, March 15, when it starts a three-game series at Rose-Hulman with a single game scheduled to start at 6:00 PM.
