Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Il. – Calvin dropped a pair of games on Saturday, falling 5-2 to Simpson College Saturday morning and then falling 9-8 to Loras College in the afternoon.
Sophomore
Patrick Gillen gave Calvin a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the second but Simpson scored two in the second and two in the third to take a 4-1 lead. Freshman Ryan Schumer singled in a run in the top of the sixth but Simpson added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Calvin went scoreless over the final three frames and managed just five hits in dropping its Saturday opener.
Gillen was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
Nate Mason had a double.
Sophomore
Evan Steinbacher went the first three innings and took the loss. Senior Coil went the next four innings and senior
Matt Reynolds went the final two innings.
In game two, Calvin fell 9-8 to Loras College.
The Knights return to action next Saturday when they compete in a doubleheader against John Carroll University in Florida.
