For the second consecutive year, Calvin senior
Kathryn Gardner has received College Triathlon Coaches Association All-America honors.
A native of Sarasota, Florida, Gardner has been named to the CTCA Division III All-America First Team. A graduate of Riverview High School, she was named to the CTCA All-America Second Team in 2023.
Gardner earned All-America accolades by placing high at the Division III Triathlon Championships earlier this month in Clermont, Florida. Individuals that placed 1-7 were named CTCA First Team All-Americans.
A second-year Calvin triathlon athlete, Gardner placed second at the 2024 Division III National Championships with a time of 1:06.06. In 2023, Gardner placed ninth at the College Triathlon Championships.
Gardner's recent national runner-up finished concluded a standout second year on the Calvin women's triathlon team that saw her place fourth at the Division III West Region Qualifier, 14th at the Millikin University Collegiate Cup in September as well as second at the Reeds Lake Triathlon in early September.
"Kathryn has always been a rockstar but she really put it all together at Nationals this year," said Calvin head women's triathlon coach Kattie Carpenter. "She had a great swim which positioned her well for the lead pack on the bike. It was exciting to watch her hang with that lead pack and work with the DII athletes. She not only held on for the run, but made up even more ground."
Gardner's efforts helped Calvin finish fifth in the final team standings at the 2024 College Division III Triathlon Championships.
