Calvin Men's Track and Field Has Big Day Two at Jack Shaw Invitational

JACK SHAW INVITATIONAL RESULTS

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Calvin men's track and field team had a huge day at the Jack Shaw Invitational on Saturday on the campus of Western Michigan University.

Using a pair of freshmen, Calvin's 4x400 meter relay took first place with a time of 3:26.13 which ranks third in the MIAA. The relay consisted of freshman Conner Lubberts (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS), senior Carter Hammond (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS), freshman Danny Andringa (Pella, Ia./Pella Christian HS) and sophomore Koby VanderWoude (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS). Hammond led off the relay with Lubberts running second, VanderWoude third and Andringa running the anchor leg.

Senior Misael Martinez-Vazquez (Chicago, Il./Chicago Hope Academy) won the shot put with a throw of 13.19 meters (43-3 ¼) and placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 39.67 meters (130-2). Senior Isaac Jonker (Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS) was sixth in the discus with a throw of 38.12 meters (125-1).

Sophomore Ethan VanWoerkom (Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS) was fourth in the triple jump at 11.50 meters (37-8) while freshman Devon Heckathorn (Grand Rapids, Mich./G.R. Catholic Central HS) was fifth in the long jump at 5.80 meters (19-3).

VanderWoude made his collegiate debut in the 200 meters and placed sixth with a time of 22.86. Lubberts was eighth in the 400 meters (51.05).

Junior Jacob Buit (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) was eighth in the 1500 meter run (4:06.45).

Calvin went 5-6-8 in the 5000 meters with senior Clenon Fincher (Elmhurst, Il./Timothy Christian HS) fifth (16:00.85), sophomore Caleb Schillinger (North Liberty, Ia./North Liberty HS) sixth (16:06.27) and graduate student Jayden VanMaurick (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) eighth (16:15.40).

COACHES COMMENT: "We had great weather and many great performances to go with it for our team," said Calvin head track and field coach Adam Haldorson. "This was the first opportunity for most of the team to compete outdoors and most of them took full advantage of the chance; fantastic way to start off the Easter weekend. I'm thankful to get to be a part of this team's journey and we are all looking Forward to what comes next for this group!"

NEXT UP: Calvin will compete at the Siena Heights Invitational next Friday in Adrian, Michigan.
