ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Calvin men's track and field team had a record-setting afternoon at the Augustana Twilight Qualifier on Thursday.
Calvin opened the day with a record in the 4x100 meter relay as the group of sophomoreÂ
Benjamin Habers (Lake Ann, Mich./Traverse City West HS), graduate student
Koby VanderWoude (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS), freshman
Hudson Shoup (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Latin HS) and freshman
Gabe Van Goor (White Lake, Mich./Clarkston HS) cruised to a record time of 41.09 that was good for fourth place Friday and ranks 35
th on the NCAA III list. The time broke the previous Calvin record of 41.69 set in 1996.
Van Goor then went out and broke the Calvin 100 meter dash record, clocking in with a time of 10.74 in the prelims, breaking the previous record of 10.77 set by Phil Sikkenga in 2000. Sikkenga was a Calvin track and field teammate of
Gabe Van Goor's father Keith Van Goor. The time of 10.74 was good for 15
th place with Shoup taking 28
th in 12.89.
VanderWoude was 23
rd in the 200 meters (21.98) with senior
Danny Andringa (Pella, Ia./Pella Christian HS) 57
th (23.12). Andringa was 45
th in the 400 meters (52.34).
Sophomore
Rhys Bedford (Delton, Mich./Delton-Kellogg HS) had a time of 14.74 that was good for fourth place in the prelims of the 110 high hurdles.

Bob Horton (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) and VanderWoude took ninth in 3:17.15.
In the field events, freshman
Alex Lutgring (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield HS) led the way, taking fourth in the discus with a career-best throw of 161-8 that ranks 43
rd nationally.
In the high jump, sophomore
Simon Vandenbroek (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) matched an outdoor season-best, jumping 6-7 for fifth place. Freshman
Sam Abdalla (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) was sixth (6-5) and freshman
Eric Barancik (Montrose, Mich./Chesaning HS) ninth (6-5).
