CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Calvin men's track and field tam had a solid two days of competition at the Davenport Tune-Up Invitational.
Calvin started out the meet with strong performances on Friday as senior
Isaac Jonker (Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS) took second with a career-best throw of 177-7 that leads the MIAA. Senior
James Viel (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) took ninth with a throw of 144-9.
In the pole vault, sophomore
Wilson Goodpaster (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS) took eighth (13-2 ½) while freshman
Colin Jambekar (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) took fifth in the javelin (135-10).
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, sophomore
Ryan Sarkett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair HS) took third with a career-best time of 10:02.82 that ranks sixth in the MIAA.
On Saturday, sophomore
Thaine Nederveld (Columbus, Oh./Columbus Alternative School) won the 800 meters with a career-best time of 1:55.91.
Sophomore
Nicholas Henz (Oswego, Il./Oswego East HS) ran the 400 meter hurdles for the first time and took seventh with a time of 59.86.
In the 5K, junior
Benjamin Kinnucan (Lowell, Mich./Lowell HS) took third with a time of 15:38.08. Senior
Jayden VanMaurick (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) was eighth with a time of 16:00.04.
In the shot put, Viel placed seventh with a career-best throw of 45-0 1/2 . Sophomore
Ethan VanWoerkom (Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS) took eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 38-0.
NEXT UP: Calvin will compete at the MIAA Championships next Thursday and Friday at Olivet College.
