Patrick Gillen Named MIAA Position Player of the Week

Calvin University freshman Patrick Gillen was named MIAA Baseball Position Player of the Week on Monday.

Gillen (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach) won the honor after batting .583 with one home run, two doubles, five runs batted in (RBI) and four runs scored to help the Knights to a series win over Trine last weekend.

Gillen recorded at least one hit in all three games, including a two-run home run to help secure the Knights' 8-4 win over the Thunder on April 22. He followed that up with four hits in a defeat to Trine in the second game of the doubleheader.

This season, Gillen leads the Knights in home runs (five), doubles (11), triples (three), runs scored (30) and slugging percentage (.698). He also ranks second on the team in batting average (.396) and RBI (37) while posting a .975 fielding percentage at shortstop. 

Among all hitters in the MIAA, Gillen ranks among the top five in hits (42), triples, home runs, RBI and slugging percentage. He is also tied for the MIAA lead with four home runs during conference play.

Gillen and the Knights will play at Aquinas on Tuesday, April 25, at Meijer field in a non-conference tune up before facnig Hope College in a three-game series starting on Thursday, April 27.
