KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A youthful Calvin men's tennis team closed out its 2021-22 season with a 5-2 loss at MIAA regular season champion Kalamazoo Wednesday afternoon in the MIAA Tournament semifinals.
Kalamazoo took two of the three doubles points to lead 2-1 early. Calvin's doubles point came at No. 3 doubles as sophomores Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield HS) and Jace DeShetler (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) were 8-5 winners over Gabe Vidinas and Parker Foster of Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles to clinch the match. DeShetler came up with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Foster at No. 6 singles to give the Knights their second point.
Calvin closes out its season with an overall record of 11-8. The Knights reached the competitive four-team MIAA Tournament with a roster of only sophomores and freshmen.
"Very happy with this team for its accomplishment to get to the MIAA Tournament with a team of freshmen and sophomores," said Calvin head tennis coach John Ross. "It was fun to actually have a full season for the first time in three years. We are looking forward to the future with everyone returning and a solid recruiting class coming in."
