Calvin Baseball Clipped by Comets in Series Opener

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin baseball dropped a conference contest against Olivet on Friday afternoon with a final score of 5-2.

Olivet was the designated home team as the game was moved to Calvin due to Olivet's field conditions.

The Comets quickly started the game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to lead 2-0. Olivet added a run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning to lead 5-0 as the Knights struggled to score runs.

Calvin finally got on the board in the top of the seventh with an RBI single by senior Ryan Petersen (Glen Ellyn, IL / Glenbard West) to make it 5-1. In the top of the ninth, the Knights had the bases loaded and cut the deficit to three with a passed ball.

The Comets held off the Knights and secured the last out to win 5-2 over Calvin. The Knights fall to 8-10 overall on the season and 1- 4 in the MIAA.

Petersen ended the day with two hits and an RBI while senior Matt Raymond (Chicago, IL / Loyola Academy) and junior Carson Warners (Grand Rapids, MI / Grand Rapids Christian) each finished with two hits as well.

Senior Zac Thor (Woodbury, MN / New Life Academy) took the loss on the mound for the Knights with one strikeout and two walks.

UP NEXT: The Knights finished their series against Olivet on Monday in a doubleheader at home starting at 1 p.m. The twinbill was original set to be played on Saturday but has been moved to Monday (at Calvin) due to cold weather conditions forecast for Saturday competition.
