Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. - Calvin baseball fell to rival Hope on the road in a conference contest with a final score of 8-6 on Thursday afternoon.
Hope finally quickly took a lead in the bottom of the first with two runs to lead 2-0. The Knights responded right away in the top of the second with a five-run inning. Seniors Andrew Hung (Waterford, MI / Waterford Mott) and J.C. Fortmann (Elgin, IL / Elgin) each started the scoring with RBI singles to score the first two runs.
Senior Ryan Petersen (Glen Ellyn, IL / Glenbard West) added two more runs for the Knights with a two-run RBI single. Calvin wasn't done scoring in the inning as senior Ricky Padilla (Poway, CA / Poway) hit an RBI single to give the Knights a 5-2 lead over Hope.
The Flying Dutchmen answered the Knights in the bottom of the fourth and scored four runs to retake the lead with a score of 7-5. Calvin was held scoreless in innings three-through-six and Hope added another run in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to 8-5.
The Knights cut the lead in the top of the seventh to 8-6 after junior Carson Warners (Grand Rpaids, MI / Grand Rapids Christian) got walked with the bases loaded.
However, the Flying Dutchmen held the Knights scoreless in the eighth and ninth inning to secure the 8-6 win. Calvin falls to 14-14 overall on the year and 7-8 in the MIAA.
Senior Hayden White (Spring Valley, CA / Grossmont) suffered his second loss of the season with two strikeouts and one walk.
UP NEXT: The Knight will be right back in action against Hope tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. with Calvin's seniors set to be honored in between games one and two.
