ANGOLA, Ind. – The Calvin women's golf team had a strong start to its 2022 spring season, placing second at the Trine Spring Classic, posting a team score of 331 strokes.
Saturday's competition was held at the Zollner Golf Club on the campus of Trine University.
Hope took first place in the 10-team field with a score of 322 strokes.
Calvin was paced by senior Kaylee Hirschman (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge HS) and sophomore Chandler Sjoerdsma (Riverside, Ca./Martin Luther King HS) paced the Knights with rounds of 82 that put them in a tie for sixth place individually.
Sophomore Georgie Scholtens (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) tied for ninth with a round of 83 while senior Emma Dykhouse (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian HS) tied for 11th with a round of 84.
Junior Jericha Scharphorn (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) tied for 23rd with a round of 90.
Sophomore Brandi Statema (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) competed individually and tied for 17th with an 89. Sophomore Lexi Herrema (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) also competed individually for the Knights and posted a round of 98.
COACHES COMMENT: "A very good start to the spring northern season for our team," said Calvin head women's golf coach Jerry Bergsma. "It was a cold afternoon, but our women competed well and showed strong mental focus."
NEXT UP: Calvin will compete at the 2-player Team Challenge at the Clearbook Country Club on April 9.
