Calvin Women’s Golf Finishes Fall Season with Tie for Fourth at MIAA Jamboree #4

ALMA, Mich. – The Calvin University women's golf team finished the fall portion it schedule with a tie for fourth place at MIAA Jamboree #4 hosted by Alma College at Pine River Country Club on Saturday.
 
The Knights finished the day with a team score of 317 strokes for its best score in league play this season to tie them with Albion College in fourth place.
 
Andrea Diemer (Wyoming, Mich./Calvin Christian) was the top Calvin player on the day, carding three birdies on the way to a 3-over par 74 that placed her third individually at the event.
 
Brooke Haney (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) also recorded a top-10 finish with a round of 75 that placed her in sixth overall thanks to a pair of birdies and a front-nine score of 1-under par 34.
 
Ava McConnon (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian) and Gina Sonday (Portland, Mich./Portland) tied for 25th individually with rounds of 84. Elizabeth Lubowicki (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) shot 86, while Kayla Adkins (Springfield, Ill./Springfield) shot 88.
 
Trine University won the tournament with a team score of 311 strokes, followed by Saint Mary's College (Ind.) and Kalamazoo College in a tie for second place with 313.
 
Calvin entered the day sixth in the MIAA standings and jumped up one spot into fifth place with an average team score through four MIAA Jamboree events of 324.25. The crowded MIAA leaderboard through four events is led by Saint Mary's with an average of 315.25, followed by Trine (315.5) and Kalamazoo (320.25) in the top three. Albion is just in front of the Knights with an average of 322.0 heading into the final two MIAA rounds in the spring.
 
 COACH'S COMMENT: "We were pleased with our strong finish to the fall season with a good team score on a challenging course," Calvin head women's golf coach Jerry Bergsma said. "Andrea and Brooke led the charge with consistent play throughout the day. It will be good for the group to take some time away from the game to continue the hard work of improving in areas to match the improved play in the MIAA conference."
