Box Score 2 SANFORD, Fla. - Calvin closed out its spring break with a doubleheader sweep over Thomas College Saturday. Calvin took the opener 6-5 and came back with a 19-5 game two win.
GAME ONE
Calvin 6, Thomas 5
Calvin used a two-run seventh inning to propel itself to a game one win over Thomas.
The Knights fell behind 2-0 in the first but answered with a two-run second with J.C. Fortman (Elgin, Il./Elgin HS) delivering a key run-scoring single.
Senior Nate Bonter (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS) had an RBI double in the fifth while senior Ryan Petersen (Glen Ellyn, Il./Glenbard West HS) had a run-scoring double in the sixth. After falling behind 5-4, senior Rick Padilla (Poway, Ca./Poway HS) belted a two-run RBI double to put the Knights back on top.
Junior Calvin Miller (Fremont, Mich./Fremont HS) pitched a scoreless frame in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win.
Bonter had two of Calvin's eight hits in the win.
GAME TWO
Calvin 19, Thomas 5
Calvin rapped out 13 hits in rolling to the game two win.
The Knights used six runs in the second and five runs in the third to take control of the game.
Senior Matt Raymond (Chicago, Il./Loyola Academy) had two hits and five runs batted in including a grand slam in the second inning.
Freshman David Barry (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) also had two hits in the win.
Senior Nick Vogel (Hartford, Wisc./Hartford HS) scored three runs.
Padilla, sophomore Nate Mason (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern HS) and junior Dylan Williams (Cedar Springs, Mich./Cedar Springs HS) all had doubles.
