ORLANDO, Fla. –Calvin picked up a pair of 9-0 victories on Thursday, defeating Houghton and Concordia-Moorhead.
MATCH ONE
Calvin 9, Houghton 0
Calvin rolled to a 9-0 win over Houghton, sweeping the three doubles points and all six singles points.
Calvin opened the match by winning all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Adam Zentner (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS) and sophomore Isaac Jeong (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) picked up an 8-3 win.
Freshman Stuart Johnston (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) and sophomore Jared Berghorst were 8-4 winners at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield HS) and sophomore Jace DeShetler (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) were 8-1 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Sindelar then picked up a 6-3, 3-6, 10-1 win at No. 1 singles. Zentner won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles
Johnston was victorious at No. 3 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-3.
Sophomore Joseph Hong (Grand Rapids, Mich./South Christian HS) won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.
Berghorst came up with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 win at No. 5 singles. Jeong closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
MATCH TWO
Calvin 9, Concordia-Moorhead 0
Calvin picked up its season win of the day, defeating Concordia-Moorhead 9-0.
Zentner and Jeong won at No. 1 doubles in a hard-fought match 8-6. Johnston and Berghorst were 8-0 winners at No. 2 doubles. DeShetler and Sindelar won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Sindelar won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Zentner won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Johnston was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles with Hong winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Berghorst claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles while DeShetler powered his way to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
