Box Score SAGINAW, Mich. - Calvin baseball fell on the road at Saginaw Valley St. with a 10-5 loss on Thursday afternoon to go to 5-5 on the season.
The Cardinals took the lead over the Knights after two innings of play with a 5-0 lead. Calvin got on the board in the 3rd with an RBI double by Ryan Petersen (Glen Ellyn, IL / Glenbard West), but Saginaw Valley St. scored another run to take a 6-1 lead.
Junior Carson Warners (Grand Rapids, MI / Grand Rapids Christian) hit an RBI single in the top of the 4th to draw the game closer with a score of 6-2. In the top of the 5th, senior Ricky Padilla (Poway, CA / Poway) hit a homerun with two runners to make it a 6-5 game going into the bottom of the fifth.
The Cardinals answered right back with two runs to extend their lead to 8-5 heading into the 6th. Calvin struggled to put runs on the board as Saginaw Valley St. shut out the Knights the rest of the game and scored two more runs to get the 10-5 win.
Freshman Matt Reynolds (Hopkins, MI / Hopkins) took the loss for the Knights and Padilla finished with 3 RBIs and two hits. Warners finished with 3 hits and 1 RBI on the afternoon for the Knights.
UP NEXT: The Knights will travel to DePauw for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 19, with Game 1 starting at 11 a.m.
