MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Calvin men's tennis team recorded its first dual match victory of the fall season, downing the Spartans of Manchester University 9-0 Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Adam Zentner and freshman Stuart Johnson teamed up for an 8-3 win over Samuel Hollingsworth and Austin Arnold at No. 1 doubles.
Sophomore Jace DeShetler and freshman Nate Moller picked up an 8-1 win over Blake Rentschler and Trevor Johnson 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Joseph Hong and freshman Grant Banesak were credited with a default win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, sophomore Jesse McCurdy picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hollingsworth at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Isaac Jeong claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Jared Berghorst topped Blake Rentschler 6-2, 7-6 at No. 3 singles. Hong pulled out a 6-1, 6-7, 11-9 win at No. 4 singles.
DeShetler was a default winner at No. 5 singles as was Banesak at No. 6 singles.
Calvin will travel to Anderson University on Saturday.
