Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin baseball fell to Kalamazoo in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon by a score of 9-5.
The Hornets took the lead early in the first two innings. Kalamazoo scored a total of six runs, which included three home runs, to jump out to the 6-0 lead heading to the bottom of the second. Calvin started to cut into the deficit by scoring two runs in the second.
Sophomore Dylan Williams (Cedar Springs, MI / Cedar Springs) grounded out, but was able to score Ricky Padilla (Poway, CA / Poway) from third. Freshman Nate Mason (Portage, MI / Portage Northern) got the second run for Calvin as he hit an RBI single to right field and made it a 6-2 game.
The Knights continued to battle back in the game and made it a 6-4 game in the third after a two-run RBI double by senior Andrew Hung (Waterford, MI / Waterford Mott). The Hornets added two more runs in the top fifth and sixth to extend their lead to 8-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth. Freshman Will Mueller (Aurora, IL / Metea Valley HS) hit an RBI double to left to make it an 8-5 game after six innings of play.
Kalamazoo added another run in the seventh inning to make the score 9-5. The Knights struggled to get men on base and the Hornets pitching held back the bats of Calvin. The Knights couldn't generate any more runs the rest of the game and fell to the Hornets with a score of 9-5. Calvin falls to 13-14 on the season.
