Box Score 2 HOLLAND, Mich. - Calvin baseball dropped both ends of a doubleheader with Hope, falling 10-2 in game one and 4-3 in game two.
In game one, Hope gained the early lead after a big second inning. Hope led 4-0 after two innings of play, but the Knights answered right away with two runs in the top of the third. Senior Damion Pompey (Edwardsburg, MI / Edwardsburg) was able to reach home on an error by the Hope catcher to get Calvin's first run of the game.
Senior Ricky Padilla (Poway, CA / Poway) hit an RBI single to left field to make it a 4-2 game after the third inning. The Flying Dutchmen started to get the bats going as they scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-2 lead. The Knights struggled to score runs the rest of the game and couldn't get anything going offensively. Hope added one more run and took home the game one win with a score of 10-2.
Game two saw the Knights gaining the early lead after three innings. In the top of the first, Pompey scored on a throwing error by Hope, and Padilla scored in the second inning on another error from the Flying Dutchmen. Calvin scored on yet another Hope error in the top of third to make it a 3-0 game after three innings.
Junior Zach Thor (Woodbury, MN / New Life Academy) was on the mound for Calvin and shut Hope out in the first four innings of the game. The Flying Dutchmen climbed into the game by scoring a run in the fifth and sixth inning to make it a 3-2 game. Calvin couldn't score in the top of the seventh, but Hope hit a tying homerun in the bottom of the seventh to send it to extra innings.
The Knights had great chance in the top of the ninth with a runner on third but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. In the bottom half off the frame, Hope hit a walk off single with the bases loaded winning the game 4-3. Calvin falls to 13-13 on the year and 8-8 in the MIAA.
