GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin got back on the winning track with a 9-0 conference victory over Adrian Saturday afternoon in a match that begin outdoors and due to inclement weather, was completed inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
Calvin (2-4 overall, 1-2 MIAA) got control of the match with Adrian (5-5 overall, 1-2 MIAA) by taking all three doubles points. Seniors Max Stallings (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) and Daniel Huan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) were 8-6 winners at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Jesse McCurdy (Anderson, Ind./Lapel HS) and freshman Adam Zentner (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS) were 8-2 winners at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield HS) and Isaac Jeong (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) were 8-3 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Stallings opened singles action with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Ronald Ducharme at No. 1 singles.
McCurdy was stellar at No. 2 singles, defeating Ryan Cuddy 6-3, 6-2. Huan dropped Joey Quigley 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Sindelar defeated Whitman Hopper 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Zentner made quick work of Zachary Perry at No. 5 singles by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Freshman Jace DeShetler (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) then topped Quinn Proctor 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Calvin returns to action on April 14, hosting Olivet at 4 p.m.
