LANSING, Mich. - Calvin split its final two matches of the Capitol City Classic this weekend. On Friday night, Calvin defeated Concordia (Mich.) 5-2 and then fell to Olivet Nazarene 7-0 Saturday afternoon.
In the win over Concordia, Calvin claimed the doubles point by winning all three flights.
Freshman Adam Zentner (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS) and freshman Jesse McCurdy (Anderson, Ind./Lapel HS) were 7-5 winners at No. 1 doubles with freshman Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield HS) and freshman Isaac Jeong (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) were 6-2 winners at No. 2 doubles. Calvin won No. 3 doubles by way of default as Concordia was unable to field a third doubles team.
In singles, senior Daniel Huan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) dropped James Olson 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Joseph Hong (Grand Rapids, Mich./South Christian HS) defeated Ethan Szabados 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Freshman Jace DeShetler (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles. Jeong picked up a default win at No. 6 singles as the Cardinals did not field a sixth singles player.
Calvin's only win against Olivet Nazarene came at No. 3 doubles with Sindelaar and Jeong winning 6-4. The Tigers took the other two doubles flights however to claim the lone pro-set doubles point.
Calvin is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Spring Arbor for a 3:30 p.m. match.
