BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Calvin women's golf team secured a spot in the four-team MIAA Spring Qualifying Tournament on Saturday, finishing fourth in the final MIAA fall team standings.
The Knights recorded a team score of 344 strokes on day two of the 36-hole MIAA Fall Tournament which was held at the Bedford Valley Golf Club.
The score allowed Calvin to finish in fourth place in the final MIAA fall standings, 47 strokes ahead of fifth place Kalamazoo.
Saturday's round was part of six MIAA 18-hole rounds with the cumulative team total from the fall season making up the final team standings.
Sophomore Chandler Sjoerdsma (Riverside, Ca./Martin Luther King HS) led Calvin on Saturday with a round of 76 that was the eighth-best total recorded on Saturday. The round allowed Sjoerdsma to finish third in the final MIAA individual standings and earn a spot on the All-MIAA First Team for the second consecutive season. Sjoerdsma was also a member of the All-MIAA First Team last spring.
Senior Kaylee Hirschman (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge HS) and junior Jericha Sharphorn (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) had rounds of 89.
Sophomore Georgie Scholtens (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) had a 90 and sophomore Brandi Statema (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) a 91.
Competing individually for the Knights, sophomore Katherine Lamer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a round of 97.
At the conclusion of the fall tournament competition on Saturday, post-season awards were presented.
Calvin senior Emma Dykhouse (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian HS) was presented with the MIAA Sportsmanship Award. She is the second individual in Calvin women's golf history to receive the honor with Nicole VanderYacht also receiving the award in 2018.
