Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin celebrated Senior Day with a doubleheader split against Alma on Friday at Calvin Field. Calvin dropped the opener 3-2 and then won game two 2-1 in 11 innings.

GAME ONE
Alma 3, Calvin 2

Calvin grabbed a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by senior Beau Redfield (Cedar Springs, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) in the third but Alma scored three times in the fifth, using a walk, two hits and a throwing error to take a 3-1 lead. In the sixth, Calvin picked up a run on a single by junior Jeremy Clark (San Diego, Ca./Mt. Carmel HS) and a subsequent throwing error. Calvin was unable to plate home across the tying run however as the Scots held on for the seven-inning win.

Junior Trevor VanDuyn (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) took the hard-luck loss as he allowed just one earned run. VanDuyn struck out seven batters and allowed only three hits.

Calvin had seven hits including two off the bat of freshman Ryan Petersen (Glen Ellyn, Il./Glenbard West HS).

GAME TWO
Calvin 2, Alma 1

Freshman Nick Vogel (Hartford, Wisc./Hartford HS) delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Knights to the dramatic win.

Sophomore Ricky Padilla (Poway, Ca./Poway HS) brought home Calvin's first run with an RBI single in the first but Alma came back with a run in the fourth.

Both teams had scoring chances throughout the game with the Scots loading the bases with two outs in the 10th but senior Steven Dogger (Holland, Mich./Holland Calvary HS) was able to quell the threat with a strikeout.

In the 11th, senior Ryan Pena (Lakewood, Ca./J. Serra Catholic HS) led off with a single and moved to second on a base hit by junior Logan Marshall (Plymouth, Mich./Salem HS) with one out. Vogel then ripped a single to left-center that brough home Pena with the winning run.

Sophomore Mark Primus (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had another high-quality start for the Knights, tossing eight innings while allowing only four hits and one run.

Dogger followed with two shutout innings of relief. Junior Justin Paauwe (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) pitched a scoreless 11th to pick up his first victory of the season.

Redfield, Clark and Marshall all had two hits apiece.

NEXT UP: The two teams close out the four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader at Alma's Klenk Park slated to start at 1 p.m.
